How do I Make Money by Blogging?
Many bloggers don't try to make money from their blogs. Those who do try to make money, however, overwhelmingly do so by displaying advertising.
Some blog systems will allow you to add advertising, while some won't. Many will allow ads, but take a cut of your revenue.
Google AdSense is by far the most common (and in my view the best) advertising system. If you add AdSense to your blog, it will display blocks of (usually text) ads on your blog. Whenever someone clicks on an ad on your site, they're taken to the advertiser's website, and Google pays you. This whole system is automated. It's fairly easy to set up, and once the ads are on your site, you never need to touch them again.
Google's system works out what your blog is about, and shows ads it thinks will interest your visitors. (For instance, by showing ads for knitting needles and balls of wool on a site about knitting.) Here's an example of some ads that might show on a website about travel to Ireland.
Because the ads are interesting and relevant to the visitor, the visitor is more likely to click on the ad, visit the website being advertised, and buy the product the advertiser is trying to sell. Because of this, people will pay Google a lot of money to advertise their sites on Google AdSense, and Google can therefore afford to pay you well for displaying those ads on your blog.
Payment from Google is by cheque/check or bank deposit.
